Daily Post: Day 20

I’ve been stuck on a topic for today, so I decided to go off of the Daily Post’s Topic: What is your favorite sound.

I have many favorite sounds, but I have to admit that one of my absolute favorite ones is hearing my nieces and nephew laughing…and there’s no better way to getting them to laugh than tickling them.  But they also laugh at me when they bump me in the head (on purpose), or tackle me, or chase me, or watch me balance toys on my head, or watching my reaction when they roar as loud as they can.  I love watching them grow up, and I’m glad that for the time being, I can just worry about being a cool aunt.  I’ll have kids of my own some day, so for now, I’ll continue to enjoy my time with them.

Today was pretty good. Went to church with the family, then out to lunch with the parents. We went back to my sisters later in the afternoon to hang out for a bit. And I just got back from going to a friends concert. I always love going to small concerts. The kids are usually very talented, and just want to play for the fun of it and to play for whoever wants to hear. It’s great to be able to listen to these kids and be inspired by them, by their talent, by their musicianship. That’s what always keeps me going and wanting to play.

Today, I went on my first aunt/niece date with my 4 year old niece.  I had been wanting to take her for a few hours for a while; you know, just on our own, hang out, have some fun.   I got my chance today.  She’s finally old enough where I can take her out on her own without anyone else (and old enough where her parents are okay with me doing that).  What better place to take her then than Disneyland!  Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “Don’t you get tired of it since you work there?”   Nope.  For some people, the “magic” dies once you start working there.  For other, like me, it just grows.  There’s nothing more enjoyable for me than to see my nieces and nephew having fun and enjoying themselves at the Happiest Place On Earth.  My niece is now also tall enough to go on pretty much every ride, including Space Mountain (one of my favorites) and The Matterhorn Bobsleds…yes, we went on both of those, and yes, she is 4 years old.  She was so excited when I picked her up from school today; and I was just as excited to be able to hang out with her for a few hours.   We had a great time.  Saw plenty of characters, including my boss Mickey (he’s my favorite).  We also met up with my sister and her family who happened to be there as well.   We even ended the day by going on my other favorite ride, Peter Pan.   The parks were great today; weather was great, not too many people, and we didn’t have to wait more than 15 minutes for any ride.   It was an awesome day.  I cannot wait to take her again; and I also cannot wait to be able to take my other nieces and my nephew when they get a bit older.  So, in this year of “Making Memories” at Disneyland, I have now made a lasting one with my niece.

Today’s Highs”

  • Had another day off
  • Babysat my 1 year old niece all day
  • Acted like a 1 year old all day
  • Played in an awesome cardboard box fort all day
  • Watched Disney movies all day

Today’s Lows:

  • Didn’t get to sleep in
  • Didn’t get to take a nap

On another note, American Idol has started up again.  It’s always interesting seeing the people they choose to show us on TV.  I still wonder how much some of those contestants get paid to embarrass themselves and sound horrific (and look horrific for that matter).  Last year’s Idol was not that bad…so I guess only time will tell with this new season.  Not so psyched about Steve Tyler and J-Lo being judges…but hopefully they pick some good(ish) people.

Today’s Topic: What Gives You Hope?

What gives me hope are my nieces and my nephew.  I watch them as they play and interact with each other and I can’t help but smile.  I cannot wait to see where there lives lead them.  They make me want to be a better person and I hope that I can be an inspiration and influence to them and that I can continue to be a mentor to them.
