God’s Wheel

•23. April. 2009 • 2 Comments

GOD says to me with a kind
of smile, “Hey how would you like
to be God awhile And steer the world?”
“Okay,” says I, “I’ll give it a try.

Where do I set?
How much do I get?
What time is lunch?
When can I quit?”

“Gimme back that wheel,” says GOD.
“I don’t think you’re quite ready YET.”

>>I came across this Shel Silverstein poem earlier today, and it made me smile.  It made me smile because it reminded me that everything is in God’s hands.  Things may not be working out right now the way we had planned, but I can smile because I’m not steering that wheel.  All I can do right now is pray and know that my God is much bigger than any problems that may arise.  God has blessed me in ways I do not deserve, and for that I am thankful.

So often we find ourselves fighting for control over our lives.  Things may not be going the way we planned, relationships may be falling apart, jobs may not be working out, but we should always remember that we cannot do anything on our own.  He is mightier and more powerful than anything and anyone.

I recently had a conversation with a friend who basically said that he was shutting everyone out.  He told me he doesn’t trust anyone, doesn’t love anyone, doesn’t need anyone, and certainly does not need pitty from anyone.  It made me sad to think that I can’t help him.  I never did anything to hurt him (at least I don’t think I did), but however he was hurt or betrayed, it was enough to make him think that he needs to put a guard up.  If you know me, I do not like seeing my friends hurt.  I’d like to be there for them, even if it means sitting in silence.  It has been bugging me these last few days, but the best I can do right now is pray for him.  Hopefully he will come to realize that there are people who still care about and love him.

Things have also been rough in my family.  My dad was let go from his job because he was too expensive to keep around.  How ridiculous is it that if you don’t have any experience, you can’t get a job, and if you have too much experience, you can’t keep a job?  So right now we’re both fighting, trying to find jobs so that we can keep on living.  I know…us and the rest of the country too…but the best I can do right now is pray.  I know everything will be alright eventually.

Let’s just hope that I can always be reminded of this poem…because I don’t think I will ever be ready to steer that wheel…

My New Niece

My oldest sister just gave birth to her first baby on March 3.  Her name is Layla Claire Atha weighing in at 4lbs. 12oz and 19in long!  Yeah, she’s really tiny, but she’s perfectly normal…just needs some meat on her bones.   : )

It was a long long labor, which ended in an emergency c section that took 5 minutes.  All in all, everyting is fine now.  They had to admit the baby to the NICU for observtion and to help her gain some weight.  Since she was under 5 pounds, they did this as a precaution.  She isn’t a premie or sick or anything actually “bad”, but they want to make sure that she can be on her own.  She had been in an incubator on oxygen and hooked up to an I.V. for a few days, but was finally taken off of all that and put in a crib by Saturday.  Which is what we wanted!  So yay!

My sister was able to go home on Saturday night as well, but the baby needed to stay in the hospital a few more days.  They’ve given the baby some tests and what not, and so far they’ve all been good.  There is a slight chance that the baby will be able to come home today, but we’re not sure yet.  One nurse says yes, and another says no.  It’s a bit frustrating, and giving us false hopes, but I’m sure it’ll be soon now.  I can’t wait to hold her and see her outside of the hospital!

Anyway, that’s pretty much it.  Now we’re just playing the waiting game.  For now, here’s a picture for your enjoyment!

Music Mondays

I’ve been listening to this artist a lot lately.  I’m not particularly huge on any form of CCM (Contemporary Christian Music), but this is one of the few artist that I do like and always go back to.  I was introduced to him a few years ago by a friend of mine and ever since I have loved listening to his music.  It’s honest, sounds great, and I can listen to it for whatever mood I’m in.

Phil Wickham

I had the pleasure of going to a concert he was in about a year ago with some friends at the Wiltern in L.A.  It was amazing.  I also had the pleasure of meeting him after the concert.  He is an amazing person and is very personable. He isn’t your typical CCM artist you might expect, with all the sterotypical cheesiness that comes along with it.  He’s got this rock quality mixed in with hymn like melodies.  I love rock and I love hymns, so both put together is fine by me! The only CD I have of his is “Cannons”, but it’s filled with a variety of songs. Some compare him to singing like Bono. Personally, I like the rock feel he brings.  In each one of his songs, he glorifies God. It is rather uplifting to hear some of his songs and be reminded of the beauty of God and His greatness.  Like I said, I am usually into CCM kind of stuff, but this I do like.  I’d encourage you to give him a try.  Just listen to the music and let it take you away.

Check out his myspace page here.  Enjoy!

The climate is different in the country: at the north is the Atacama’s Dessert (the most dry in the world, where the NASA tests the mars devices, nad where the main telescopy is set on)….the center of the country has a mediterranean climate, the south has a rainy, the austral a cold one…and the antartic…is ice.
